Week of February 15th

Winter is still here! Please be sure to send in boots, snow pants, gloves, and a hat with your child. Most of our playground is covered in snow and students will need snow gear to be able to stay warm and dry outside!

Important Dates

February 24 - Late Start

Multiplication Facts

*Miss Yoder's Class: Memorize 9's

Although we are wrapping up our weekly multiplication facts, it will be important to continue to practice at home. Some students still do not have these facts memorized, and most will need continued review to keep them fresh in their mind! Thank you for your ongoing support with this!

Quizlet practices were added to our Google Classrooms. This allows students to practice memorization of facts with two fun games: Gravity or Match. This is a great way to practice and gives students some independent practice.

Remember:

2. Flashcards should go back and forth between home and school each day.

What We Learned This Week

In Language Arts, we have enjoyed researching and reading about various heroes to celebrate during Black History Month. We have also introduced a bi-weekly article in which students have the opportunity to respond to questions involving key ideas and details, craft and structure, and the integration of knowledge and ideas.

Writing: students are busy creating their final draft of their informational writing. We will be wrapping of this unit next week. Don't forget to ask them about their topic!

In Math we have started working on finding the perimeter and area of various 2D shapes. This will continue through next week.

In  Social Studies we have started our unit on how Michigan became a state. We are learning about the War of 1812 and many important leaders in our state. Our flip books are well under way and the students are excited to write about all that we are learning!

Our unit on Force in Science is now complete! Our students learned a lot about forces, pushes, pulls, and friction. Mystery Doug is amazing!

Word Study Next Week

Our focus will be on Long a Vowel Patterns in Accented syllables. Words for Friday will be: crayon, complaint, bracelet, and label

Important Considerations

  • There are no drinking fountains at school. Students must bring a refillable water bottle to school each day. This is essential for hydration throughout the day.
  • We are going through snacks at an alarming rate. Please take time to help your child pack a snack each day.
  • Students need to practice their multiplication facts every night as well as bring the note cards to and from home.
  • Earbuds/Earphones are an essential part of learning. Many students do not have working earbuds at school. We have some available for student use but students often do not like how they feel.

  • Please don't forget to send in snow gear so students are able to play outside safely and keep warm and dry.
