Week of February 12th

Valentine's Day

While it was not our traditional Valentine's Day party, the kids had a wonderful week.. Since our positivity word of the week was love, we started the week by spreading love to our community. The students created Valentine's Day cards and bookmarks for the residents at Royalton Manor. We are hopeful that it will bring a smile to their faces during this very difficult time. Our focus this week was showing love to your family, your school family, your community, and yourself.

Along with our service project, students had an opportunity to make Valentine's Day cards for others, made an origami heart bookmark, and enjoyed a Valentine's Day snack today. As always, we miss our families celebrating with us but we still had lots of fun!

Half-Day On Tuesday

Please note that Tuesday is now a half-day of school so that teachers can attend the Berrien County Health Department Covid Vaccination Clinic. We appreciate your flexibility with this change.

Multiplication Facts

Next week we will...
*Mrs. Covert's Class: Memorize 9's
*Mrs. Knuth's Class: Memorize 9's
*Miss Yoder's Class: Memorize 8's

Quizlet practices were added to our Google Classrooms. This allows students to practice memorization of facts with two fun games: Gravity or Match. This is a great way to practice and gives students some independent practice.

Remember:
1. Students make flashcards at the beginning of the week
2. Flashcards should go back and forth between home and school each day.

What We Learned This Week

In Language Arts, we have enjoyed researching and reading about various heroes to celebrate during Black History Month. Our students are utilizing many important reading and writing skills while, at the same time, learning about our nation's difficult past. These heroes have overcome tough challenges. and/or cleared the path for change.

For Writing, students have continued working on their informational texts. We have focused on creating topic sentences and writing the body paragraphs. Introductions and conclusions will also be written by students. We will be finishing up this unit next week.

In Math we finished our unit on measurement to the 1/4 inch. We also continued to work on creating line plots around data and answering questions about the line plot. This was lots of fun and our students are really growing. The end of the week brought the new topic of perimeter. Area will be added soon. This is always a unit that is lots of fun for kids.

Next week in Social Studies we will begin a brand new unit. Students will create flipbooks to document all they are learning about each important person and even in Michigan.

Our unit on Force in Science is now complete! Our students learned a lot about forces, pushes, pulls, and friction. Mystery Doug is amazing!

Word Study Next Week

We will take one more week off from word study with the partial days.
Celebrate! No spelling words this week!

Important Considerations

  • There are no drinking fountains at school. Students must bring a refillable water bottle to school each day. This is essential for hydration throughout the day.
  • We are going through snacks at an alarming rate. Please take time to help your child pack a snack each day.
  • Students need to practice their multiplication facts every night as well as bring the note cards to and from home.
  • Earbuds/Earphones are an essential part of learning. Many students do not have working earbuds at school. We have some available for student use but students often do not like how they feel.
