MSTEP and NWEA
We have finished up both reading and math for MSTEP! Next week we will begin NWEA. In preparation, we simply ask your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast! We also talked to the students about taking their time, and doing their personal best.

What We Learned This Week

Language Arts: Each day, we are reading a new article and learning about various text structures. We are also answering comprehension questions to go along with the article. 

Writing: Our final writing unit will focus on writing an opinion essay. 

Math: We continue to work on our operations and algebraic thinking standards. In this unit, we will be solving 2-step number stories, finding factors, and breaking apart larger multiplication problems. It will be important for students to know their multiplication facts for this unit! 

Science: We have officially completed our science units for the year. Science tests will be sent home sometime next week. Our focus in May will be on Social Studies. 



Don't forget to read!
 20 - 25 minutes a night minimum will set your student up for an amazing future.. Check out this graphic to recognize the importance of reading. A missed day of reading can never be made up.

  • There are no drinking fountains at school. Bring a refillable water bottle to school each day. 
  • Earbuds/Earphones are an essential part of learning. Many students do not have working earbuds at school. We have some available for student use but students often do not like how they feel.

What We Learned This Week

Language Arts: We are wrapping up Tornado (ask to see their packet-they've worked hard!) and will begin articles that incorporate various text structures. 

Writing: We will be taking a break from writing to focus on our article responses for ELA.

Math: We just finished our unit on Geometry and will be revisiting our operations and algebraic thinking standards. In this unit, we will be solving 2-step number stories, finding factors, and breaking apart larger multiplication problems. It will be important for students to know their multiplication facts for this unit! 

Science: We have officially completed our science units for the year. Science tests will be sent home sometime next week. Our focus in May will be on Social Studies.

What We Learned This Week

Language Arts: Our third graders have been busy reading an end-of-the-year chapter book called Tornado. Students are working through daily reading assignments, writing assignments, vocabulary activities, and comprehension activities. The packet will be completed and sent home next week. 

Writing: Students are working on daily Tornado writing assignments. Please make sure that all Wixie informational projects are complete and ready to be submitted next week.

Math: Our geometry unit has started. We are learning to identify attributes of quadrilaterals and other polygons. Important vocabulary includes parallel lines, right angles, vertices, There is much more to come as we finish up Geometry next week. 

Science: Our students have had a lot of fun identifying various types of clouds. You may have a future meteorologist in your home! Ask your student about the different types of clouds you see in the sky!
