Week of February 1st

Valentine's Day❤

Per the Clarke Connection Blog:

Valentine's Day is right around the corner! It just so happens that the 14th is on a Sunday this year and students do not have school on Friday the 12th or on Monday the 15th.

Teachers have been busy planning activities and lessons to include in their morning meetings that will take the place of the traditional card exchange and parties. With this year being a little different, there is no need to send anything in from home, we will handle it all!

During the week of February 8 - 11, it just so happens our Positivity Project (P2) activities will be focused on "Love." Love means that you value close relationships with others and being close to people. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships.

Please do not have your student bring anything from home to school.

We will cover everything here at school! Thank you for understanding.

Important Dates

February 10 - Late Start
February 12 - NO SCHOOL
February 15 - NO SCHOOL
February 17 - Late Start
February 24 - Late Start

Multiplication Facts

*Mrs. Covert's Class: Memorize 8's
*Mrs. Knuth's Class: Memorize 8's
*Miss Yoder's Class: Memorize 7's
Students will be writing flashcards for each multiplication fact. It is important to note that students will need to bring their flashcards back and forth from home and school.  Remember, harder facts will come later so this is a great time to build your child's self-esteem and confidence with math facts. Let them know they are AMAZING right now and they are doing GREAT!

Positivity Project Character Strength: Integrity
This week we focused on integrity (being honest, trustworthy, and the doing the right thing.....even when nobody else is watching). We listened to a book written by Julia Cook, titled It's Not My Fault. Students had many connections to the book which prompted some good classroom discussions. We thought you might also find the book relevant as a parent/guardian, so you will find the link attached below.

What We Learned This Week

In Language Arts, we have continued completing literary work around different books in the classrooms.

For Writing, students have continued working on their informational texts. We have focused on creating topic sentences and writing the body paragraphs. Introductions and conclusions will also be written by students. We will be finishing up this unit next week.

Math was focused on our measurement and data unit. Students will be learning how to measure to the nearest inch, half-in, and quarter-inch. We have also been working with reading and creating line plots.

No Social Studies this week.

Science has centered around FORCE. Students are learning about different pushes and pulls, friction, and magnets.

Word Study Next Week

These are the words your student needs to know for Friday, February 19th:
crayon, complaint, bracelet, label
*Please note that there will be no Word Study this week!

Reminders

  • Students need to bring their water bottles every day. The office has plastic water bottles, but they are running out. It is important that your student brings a reusable water bottle to school every single day as our drinking fountains are only being used to fill water bottles.
  • Students need to bring a snack every single day. If you are going to donate to the classroom, please only provide individually wrapped goldfish or pretzels. When you donate snacks that are not individually wrapped, we have to bag the snacks ourselves and with COVID-19 we would like to reduce the number of snacks we have to handle. Additionally, we find that when other snacks are provided, students are "forgetting" their snacks. This makes it difficult when students actually forget their snacks.
  • Students need to practice their multiplication facts every night as well as bring the note cards to and from home.
  • Students have lost or broken their earbuds/headphones. The school has only so many to offer and we are running out. Please talk with your student to check that they have working earbuds/headphones here at school.
