Word Study Next Week

Our focus will be on Long i Vowel Patterns in Accented syllables. Words for Friday will be: surprise, minus, supply

Multiplication Facts

Please take some time to work on multiplication facts that have not been memorized.
We cannot stress enough the importance of instant recall. Many students have realized this importance while learning to calculate area. Let's keep math confidence up by practicing!

💚Don't forget to go to Google Classroom where your child can find quizlet games such as Gravity and Match to work on memorization in a fun way!
💚Continued review is important to keep facts fresh in the mind

What We Learned This Week

In Language Arts, we have enjoyed researching and reading about various heroes to celebrate during Black History Month. We are in the 2nd week of our article in which students are responding to questions involving key ideas and details, craft and structure, and the integration of knowledge and ideas. They are really stretching their brains and reading for purpose!

Writing: students are busy creating their final draft of their informational writing. We are close to wrapping up these units. The students have worked so hard!

In Math we have finished our area and perimeter unit. Students should be able to tell the difference between area and perimeter as well as find the area and perimeter of polygons and rectilinear shapes. Not sure what that is? Ask your child! You'll be impressed!

In  Social Studies we are close to finishing our unit on how Michigan became a state. Our flipbooks are complete. Next week we will review. A study guide was sent home on Friday and the test will be Wednesday, March 3rd. There is a writing component that students need to prepare for. Let your teacher know if you have any questions at all!

Important Considerations

  • There are no drinking fountains at school. Students must bring a refillable water bottle to school each day. This is essential for hydration throughout the day.
  • We are going through snacks at an alarming rate. Please take time to help your child pack a snack each day.
  • Students need to practice their multiplication facts every night as well as bring the note cards to and from home.
  • Earbuds/Earphones are an essential part of learning. Many students do not have working earbuds at school. We have some available for student use but students often do not like how they feel.
  • Please don't forget to send in snow gear so students are able to play outside safely and keep warm and dry.
