Week of January 18

Reminders

  • Students need to bring their water bottles every day. The office has plastic water bottles, but they are running out. It is important that your student brings a reusable water bottle to school every single day as our drinking fountains are only being used to fill water bottles.
  • Students need to bring a snack every single day. If you are going to donate to the classroom, please only provide individually wrapped goldfish or pretzels. We find that when other snacks are provided, students are "forgetting" their snacks. This makes it difficult when students actually forget their snacks.
  • Students need to practice their multiplication facts every night as well as bring the note cards to and from home.
  • Students have lost or broken their earbuds/headphones. The school has only so many to offer and we are running out. Please talk with your student to check that they have working earbuds/headphones here at school.

Winter Conferences

We are now ready for our second round of conferences. You may receive an email requesting you to sign up for a conference time with your student's teacher. Or, you will receive an email giving you an update on how your student is doing without the need for a conference. Conferences will be held virtually again. Please contact your student's teacher if the time slots provided do not work for you. We look forward to meeting with you again soon!

Important Dates

January 27 - NO LATE START
January 28 - Half Day
January 29 - Half Day
February 3 - Late Start

Multiplication Facts

*Mrs. Covert's Class: Memorize 7's
*Mrs. Knuth's Class: Memorize 7's
*Miss Yoder's Class: Memorize 6's
Students will be writing flashcards for each multiplication fact. It is important to note that students will need to bring their flashcards back and forth from home and school.  Remember, harder facts will come later so this is a great time to build your child's self-esteem and confidence with math facts. Let them know they are AMAZING right now and they are doing GREAT!

What We Learned This Week

In Language Arts, we paused learning around a book this week due to NWEA testing.

For Writing, students have begun the early stages of their informational writing. They have selected a topic that they are an expert on and have listed their chapters with facts. We will continue working on this writing unit over the next couple of weeks!

Math was focused on the unit: measurement and data. Students looked at multiple different types of graphs and discussed what they noticed along with what the graphs could be used for. Students gathered their own data using their classmates to create a bar graph. Pictographs were also observed and discussed as well as created by students!

No Social Studies this week.

Science this week consisted of starting our new unit: Invisible Forces. Students are exploring the differences between a push and a pull while engaging in fun experiments to bring the learning to life!
