Week of November 9th

 Third Grade - Southwood Es

Personal Message

As a 3rd grade team, we feel face-to-face instruction is very important! We love teaching your student! Cases are increases drastically in our area. and yet we know our students are having many play dates on half-days and in the evenings. Please remember that being in school provides your child with not only an education but also the social interactions and social-emotional learning that you want for your student. During this pandemic, we would love for you to allow the school to be your child's social time and time outside of school for you to be together as a family. It could make the difference in keeping us at school vs. remote learning. We know you are fatigued but we have to do our part for a while longer. Please let us know if we can help in any way.

Important Dates

November 20: Half day - End of First Trimester

Multiplication Facts

We are beginning our multiplication fact work! Students will be writing flashcards for each multiplication fact. It is important to note that students will need to bring their flashcards back and forth from home and school. Please have the 0's and 1's memorized by Monday. Next week will work on 2's! Remember, harder facts will come later so this is a great time to build your child's self-esteem and confidence with math facts. Let them know they are AMAZING right now and they are doing GREAT!

We would greatly appreciate donations of notecards (3 by 5) for all three classes!

Reminders

  • Students need to bring their water bottles every day.
  • Students need to bring a snack every day.
  • We are good on extra snacks right now--thank you so very much for your donations!

What We Learned This Week

In Language Arts, we read the book I'm Delighted to Learn about Turkeys. Students worked with this non-fiction text to find text evidence, labeling parts of a turkey, and write why turkeys are eaten at Thanksgiving! This non-fiction text pairs with next week's story: 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving.

Students have been continuing their personal narrative writingStudents have brainstormed ideas as well as feelings to write about for their personal narrative. They will complete a graphic organizer, write a rough draft, and publish this writing by the end of the unit!

Math was focused on multiplication and division! Students worked with word problems to equally share different objects. This week all three 3rd grade classes divided up to work on time and elapsed time for Math WINN (What I Need Now) instead of Math Workshop.
